FIND FOUR ANCIENT PLACES IN BRITAIN

  1. A site brought to light by a great storm,
    Since restored to its present form.
    This place name christened by Sir Walter Scott,
    Has a thousand years of history,
    In its present island plot.

    ANSWER: Jarlshoff, Shetland Isles

  2. A huge and circular, flat topped cone of a hill,
    Where many have tried to uncover its fill,
    And why it was built no one really knows,
    Therefore this mystery remains unsolved.

    ANSWER: Silbury Hill, Wilts.

  3. A Saint with a Major and a column to share,
    Has a ceremonial site with nine ladies fair!

    ANSWER: Nine Maidens, St. Columb Major, Cornwall

  4. Amongst these rugged uplands,
    Where rock shelters abound,
    And deep in the gorges,
    With combes that lie around,
    A very famous key-hole,
    Will be found beneath the ground.

    ANSWER: Wookey Hole, Somerset
